DIY // Simple Scandinavian fall decorations - Quick, easy and budget-friendly

Good evening lovelies, are you ready for a cute and cosy little weekend project? ♥

I know I am a bit late to the party when it comes to fall decorations, but this month has just flown by and I can’t believe that October is almost over already! It is like I alway say though – better late than never right?

After years and years of dreading falls arrival, then I have finally started embracing it, celebrating it even, and it is amazing what an open and positive mindset can do – fall have gone from being something that I quite honestly hated to being something that I find so cosy and lovely that I have actually started to look forward to the change in seasons.

One of the main reasons for my change in attitude towards fall is that I actively made an effort to make the change in seasons a positive experience. Instead of focusing on it getting darker, colder and rainier, then I started to focus on the beautiful color palette of the foliage, the fun of Halloween and the cosiness of autumn season. I have decorated the stairs to our house with pumpkins, I have baked cookies, found new books to read, played music on my record player, had lots and lots of tea, stocked up on candles and fuzzy socks, bought the cosiest knits and now I have even made some cute little fall decorations as well.

The decorations that I made are really simple, but I like that they are quite minimalistic and Scandinavian in their style as I find many of the typical fall decorations to be beautiful, but a bit over-the-top compared to my usual decor. I made three different decorations, but used the same supplies for all of them to keep costs down and to keep it nice and simple. I hope you like them, please let me know if you have any questions, it was a bit hard to describe the process, but everything is super easy to make, so I think you’ll be fine ♥

Minimalistic fall wreath

What you’ll need:
Gold metal craft ring*
Gold wire
Wirecutter
Eucalyptus branches
Pinecones
Artificial or real flowers

*I got a cheap one from Søstrene Grene along with the gold wire. If you can’t find a craft ring, then you can use a wire hanger, simply pull and shape it into a circle.

Directions:
Start by placing the circle in front of you and then grab two of the eucalyptus branches. Gently place the first branch along circle and make sure the two aligns – no need to wrap the branch around the circle as it is a lot more work and is unnecessary as the leaves will blend in nicely and wrap around the circle on their own. Cut off small pieces of the wire and use it to fasten the eucalyptus branch on the circle by simply wrapping it around both of them.

Repeat with the process with the second branch – you will probably need to trim it a little if you want to leave some of the circle bare like I did. Then cut more pieces of the wire and use it to wrap around the bottom of the flowers and pinecones – the wire needs to be long enough to both wrap around the pinecones/flowers several times and then around the craft circle to fasten it. I used the middle of the wire to wrap around them, so you have two ends of wire to fasten around the circle, it makes it easier to ensure that the flowers and pinecones stay in place.

Some of them were easier than others as they had little branches to wrap the wire around, but if the ones you use do not have that, then you can wrap the wire around the bottom layer of the pinecone or flower. I did it with a couple of mine and the wire wasn’t noticeable + it was even sturdier than when I wrapped it around the ones with little branches at the bottom. Now all there is left to do is add the flowers and pinecones to the craft circle and you are done, enjoy!

Mason jar tealight candle holder

What you’ll need:
Mason jars
Gold wire
Wirecutter
Eucalyptus branches
Pinecones
Artificial or real flowers
Tealight candles

Directions:
Start by choosing an eucalyptus branch – it is best if it is thin and easily bends – then measure how long it needs to be to wrap around the top of the mason jar and cut of the excess branch. Take the gold wire and gently wrap it around the branch (avoid the leaves) leaving some excess wire on both ends of the branch. Wrap the branch around the top of the mason jar again and fasten it with the ends of gold wire.

Then all there is left to do is to use the gold wire to fasten the pinecones and flowers by using the same method as with the wreath, but make sure to keep the decorations in a safe distance from the opening of the mason jar, so they do not catch on fire when you light the candle.
