DIY // Handmade scented beeswax candles – the perfect homemade christmas present (w. video) | DIY

Good evening lovelies, can you believe that December is finally here – and that it is already the 4th?!

I am so excited for christmas this year and I have SO many christmas related recipes, DIY’s, gift guides and more ready for you guys + I just launched my brand new Youtube channel and posted my very first video!! It was supposed to be up this weekend, but I must admit that it took me a while longer to figure out how to film, edit, find music etc. than I had expected. Anyways, it’s like I always say, better late than never right?

I hope you will enjoy the video and please don’t be too hard on me, I feel super nervous about posting this, it is the very first video I ever filmed and I still only have basic equipment that isn’t really ideal for filming, but I am looking to upgrade as soon as possible + the setup will be better once I am done with my new office. I have already filmed three more videos for you guys (and they are shorter + better quality I promise, I feel like I have already learned a lot), but for now I wanted to share this little DIY project where I show how to make scented beeswax candles + cute christmassy packaging. I have also shared the details and step-by-step instructions below if you prefer to have it in writing.

I am so happy with how these scented candles turned out; they are so cute and festive, they smell amazing and I love how beeswax candles produces negative ions when burned, which helps neutralize pollutants in the air and eliminate dust, odors, and mold – unlike regular candles they actually improve the air quality of your home, amazing right?!

Christmas spice & mulled wine mason jar beeswax candles

What you’ll need to make the jars:
2x 500 ml mason jars
Vintage white chalk paint
Paint brush
Sandpaper
Natural twine
Twigs of green foliage

What you’ll need to make the beeswax candle:
2 cotton candle wicks
Glue to help fasten the wicks, I used hot glue
Masking tape
750 grams (1.65 pound) beeswax
1.5 deciliter (1 cup) coconut oil, melted
Your fragrance of choice, I used christmas spice & mulled wine

How to:
Start by giving the jars two coats of chalk paint, make sure to allow them to dry completely between each layer. When the paint is completely dry give them a quick sanding to remove any imperfections + to bring out the details in the jar and give it a vintage look.

Then fill a pot with about 5 centimeter / 2 inches of water and place a metal jug filled with the beeswax in the center of the pot. Turn the heat to medium and make sure to keep an eye on it while the beeswax melts.

While you wait for the beeswax to melt you can add the wicks to the bottom of the jars, I used a dab of hot glue to secure it and of course placed the wicks in the center of the jar. Use a piece of masking tape to make sure the wick stays in place when you pour in the wax. The tape should be rather thin, so you might need to cut it in half. Poke a hole in the middle of the tape, pull the wick through it and secure the tape to the side of the jar – you can see a full demonstration in the video.

Once the beeswax has melted it is time to take it off the heat and stir in the coconut oil and fragrance oils – the amount of fragrance oils to add depends on what kind of oils you use and how strong you want the scent to be.

Once you have stirred everything together it is time to pour the mixture into the jars, the beeswax sets rather quickly so I would recommend that you move quite fast. Depending on the jug you use you can either just pour the wax directly into the jars or you can use a funnel. Let the candles set completely before you decorate them with the twigs and twine – you can even add a little personalized card if you want to use the candles as gifts.

Sweet orange and christmas spice beeswax candles

What you’ll need to make the jars:
2x 165 ml mason jars
Vintage white chalk paint
Paint brush
Dried orange slices
Cinnamon sticks
Natural twine
Twigs of green foliage

What you’ll need to make the beeswax candle:
2 cotton candle wicks
Glue to help fasten the wicks, I used hot glue
Masking tape
250 grams (0.55 pound) beeswax
0.5 deciliter (0.2 cup) coconut oil
Your fragrance of choice, I used sweet orange & christmas spice

Use hot glue to add the dried orange slices and cinnamon sticks to the jars and make sure to allow the glue to set before you add the wax or you can simply wait and add the pieces after you pour in the wax.

While you wait for the beeswax to melt you can add the wicks to the bottom of the jars, I used a dab of hot glue to secure it, and of course placed the wicks in the center of the jar.
