Cheap and easy DIY // Rustic clay planters

Evening lovelies, are you ready for my newest little DIY project? I have been so excited to share this super easy and very affordable DIY with you guys, it will help you give your planters a very rustic Scandinavian feel and all it requires are clay planters, yoghurt and a bit of patience – it does not get much easier than this!

As some of you know I am a bit of a plant lady, most of my apartment is filled with lush green plants and I am always on the lookout for new ones to add to my collection. My favorite planters are the rustic clay ones, but it can be hard to find them with patina without having to pay a small fortune. I mean clay planters are usually really cheap, but those with a rustic look and patina are often priced up to 5 times as much as the clean looking ones. That can amount to some quite high figures when you love to collect plants, so lately I have experimented with making my own rustic looking planters instead.

I can’t take any credit for the idea whatsoever, it is a very well known technique, but I haven’t found any photos or posts with people showing their results, so I thought I would show you guys how my little DIY project turned out + explain how I achieved the look as well of course, enjoy! ♥

What you’ll need:
Clay planters
Yoghurt
A sponge

Directions:
Simply use a sponge to apply the yoghurt to the planters (I used plain greek yoghurt, but all kinds of yoghurt should work just fine), make sure to apply a generous layer before leaving the planters outside for 2-4 weeks until they have a nice rustic look. The climate where you live will have an impact on how long it takes, so just keep an eye on them and bring them in when they have the desired look.

Use a sponge or similar to gently remove any excess yoghurt, dirt or mould. And that’s it, the planters are ready to be used, enjoy!
