Evening lovelies! Today I want to talk about a new baking concept that has pretty much made my entire week. As I have shared many times before, I am very fond of bread, as in I would actually prefer good bread over cake or pastry, but I have also always hated baking. Not the best combo right?

I am slowly starting to enjoy baking more, but it will never really be my thing. I have no problem admitting that I am just not that good at it and I probably never will be, because I don’t really enjoy the process and I tend to avoid it if possible. There’s just something about touching the dough, just thinking about it makes me cringe, eek I hate getting my fingers all sticky and covered in dough.

I truly love freshly baked bread though and since moving out of the city and now no longer having a bakery nearby, then I have really missed having properly baked bread – I mean supermarked bread is just not in any way in the same league!

I have found the answer to my bread problem though (haha yeah such a first world problem, I know), Smartbake.dk is this great concept, where you can order a box of high quality dough that gets delivered straight to your doorstep. You can easily customize your order to fit your needs and you can choose how often you want it delivered, if you want the glutenfree option and if you want to add any extras. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

I choose a (non gluten-free) box with:
2 x ryebread dough
1 x white basis dough
1 x brown basis dough
1 x theme dough

The theme dough varies each week, so you will get a surprise dough, which I really love! This week it was cookies with hazelnuts and belgian chocolate, yes please! They mix it up with the other types of dough once in a while as well, so that there will be a new kind of rye bread, white basis dough etc.

How to sign up
It is beyond easy to sign up, simply go to Smartbake.dk and choose which of the boxes you’d like (basis or gluten-free), choose how often you want it delivered (every week, every other week, every third week etc.), choose if you want any add ons (pizza dough, muffin dough etc.) and that is it!

The basis box costs 169,00 DKK, which I actually think is a great price for that amount of high quality bread + there is no fixation period, so you can easily change or cancel your subscription up until a week before delivery.

Use the discountcode AMILLIONMILES to get a 42% discount on your first Smartbake box when you sign up for a subscription.

You can read more about my personal experience with receiving the box, the baking and how I liked the bread below.

I received my first box this Friday and it went as smoothly as expected, it was delivered on my doorstep in the packaging you can see above and the dough was carefully wrapped and packed with cooling elements to keep it cold in case no one was home upon delivery.

The box came with thorough instructions on how to store the dough, how to bake it and even with ideas on how to customize it as the basic doughs are just that – basic doughs that can be used for pretty much whatever your imagination allows.

I quickly unpacked everything and stored everything except one of the rye bread doughs in the fridge, I put that one in the freezer instead as I know I won’t need it for another week or two. The doughs can keep for up to 72 hours in the fridge, but you can easily store them in the freezer for up to a month instead, if you know you won’t be able to use them within that timeframe.

On Satuday I got baking and tested all of the doughs – the basis dough came with some beyond delicious sounding ideas for add-ins, but I wanted to keep it basic (insert joke here) to be able to properly taste the natural flavors and textures of the basic doughs + I love that this whole concept is such a easy alternative to baking from scratch and I wanted to keep it as quick and simple as possible.

I turned the basic dough into buns and added a handful of seeds onto the brown ones + to the rye bread. To the cookies I couldn’t help but add some extra chocolate as well, because you can never really have too much chocolate right?! ;)

I absolutely LOVE how the bread turned out, the rye bread was so flavorful and perfect in texture + I love that it was so full of seeds and wholegrains = perfect for my beloved mashed avo! The buns were so light and airy, it is seriously some of the best bread I’ve had, haha and yes I have already eaten wayy too much! However, I must admit that the cookies weren’t really to my liking. I usually prefer the darker crunchier cookies and I have always been a picky eater when it comes to desserts, so it was probably a bit of an uphill battle for them to win me over. It is probably just me being weird about desserts, but they were the “surprise” theme dough, so there is nothing to worry about as they won’t be in the box next week.

All in all I was very happy with my Smartbake.dk box. I think it is the perfect way to get high quality (almost homebaked) bread if your are too busy or don’t really feel like you got the skills to make it from scratch. My sister and I have been talking about sharing a box from now on (it is meant for a family with 2 adults and 2 kids) and then just getting it every other week + it would be perfect when we are having family over for brunch or dinner and already have a bazillion other things to make in the kitchen before they arrive. So yes, I would definitely recommend giving it a try, it is a great way to make life just a little bit easier – and tastier ;)
